Dog lover T Shirt with Greek Philosophy Quote about dogs

1. Philosophy T-Shirt for dog lovers (Dogs Are True Philosophers - Socrates)

T Shirt for people who like dogs

Socrates (c. 470 – 399 BC). Greek Philosopher from Athens, one of the founders of Western Philosophy. He was teacher of Plato.

Socrates himself did not write anything. His work is known mainly from his students and followers - especially Plato where this quote comes from "Republic (book 2)":

"Why, a dog, whenever he sees a stranger, is angry; when "(he sees) an acquaintance, he welcomes him, although the one has never done him any harm, nor the other any good. Did this never strike you as curious?
And surely this instinct of the dog is very charming;--your dog is a true philosopher..., because he distinguishes the face of a friend and of an enemy only by the criterion of knowing and not knowing. And must not an animal be a lover of learning who determines what he likes and dislikes by the test of knowledge and ignorance?"

2. Philosophy T-Shirt for vegetarians (Eating Meat Is Unjust - Theophrastus)

T Shirt for people who cook vegetarian

Theόphrastus (c. 371 – c. 287 BC). Student and successor of Aristotle. He worked on topics of biology, physics, ethics and metaphysics.

Theophrastus believed that killing animals for food was wasteful and morally wrong. He also argued that animal sacrifices had the opposite outcome as believed back then: They angered the gods!

3. T Shirt for musicians and music lovers (Music Is A Moral Law - Plato)

T shirt for musician

Plato (428/427 or 424/423 – 348/347 BC). Greek Athenian Philosopher, founder of the Platonist school – the Academy, the first “university” in the western world. One of the most important thinkers in the history of mankind, he was teacher of Aristotle.

This quote is wrongly attributed to many intellectuals of the past. The origin is unknown. Many different translations from the original Greek texts or unwritten knowledge makes the tracking of the original source impossible.

The complete quote as seen in Wordsworth Dictionary of Musical Quotations, 1991, p. 45  is this:

"Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate, and eternal form (Plato)."

4. T Shirt for book lovers, readers and teachers (Only The Educated Are Free - Epictetus)

T Shirt about studying

Epictetus (c.50 – 135 AD). Greek Stoic Philosopher. He taught that philosophy is not just theory but a way of life. This has inspired us 100%!

This quote comes from "The Discourses" by Epictetus, Book II, Chapter 1:

"...For in these matters we must not believe the many, who say that free persons only ought to be educated, but we should rather believe the philosophers, who say that the educated only are free..."

5. T Shirt for wine lovers (Wine: The Most Useful Drink, The Tastiest Medicine, The Most Pleasant Food - Plutarch)

Plutarch (AD 46 – after 119) was a Greek Middle Platonist philosopher and  famous historian with an enormous influence in literature who also dealt with everyday life.

This quotes comes from "De tuenda sanitate" (Advice about keeping well, chapter 19) the 11th of 78 essays and speeches of the Moralia collection:

"For wine is the most beneficial of beverages, the pleasantest of medicines, and the least cloying of appetizing things, provided that there is a happy combination of it with the occasion as well as with water."
